15 October 2006 Happy Mata Hari day. Added the full names to the found links. One hopes it will increase search ranks. Also fixed a long standing bug(s) with the browse (more|previous).
12 September 2006 Finally got the Catalyst version live and bugless. It had problems in Catalyst::Engine::CGI with the PATH containing any regex chars. Nice so far. Certainly easier to tweak stuff and add functionality.
24 March 2006 Stubbed out a Catalyst version last weekend that’s quite zippy under FastCGI. Need to move model to Sweet or DBIC and make some choices about URI revamps and then I think I’ll move it over for real. It’s, casual observation, 3-‌4 times faster than the current version.
14 November 2005 First day we’ll push 100 registered queries off the list. Time to optimize some of this stuff and maybe plug-‌in some caching or write out the day pages to flat files at least…?
7 November 2005 Jody picked up the site at Steel White Table.
25 October 2005 I did the shopping, took the dog out, back wrote about 20 of these, and honored Rosa Parks. I think it’s okay if I have a third beer.
8 October 2005 I did some pretty nice treatments for a real logo for the site a few weeks back but I have no idea where they are or if they were good enough to fly.
3 October 2005 Added the JavaScript “Link to this” yesterday and moved the position of it around today.
1 October 2005 Backfilled a lot of “found” links today. Google seems to have forgiven whatever I did wrong with the navigation that put my results in the basement; I think I fixed it by blocking robots from the /k path for short links. Querylog is back on top for its own name and regular queries are popping up in the top 20.
I changed the rewrite stuff quite a bit too. Much simpler and more sound now. Also improved the referring query parsing a bit.
Now, if I could just get around to fixing the WhiskerBiscuit to exclude terms, I could mix it in too.
29 September 2005 Surfaced the found links. I think I’m not going to do the voting any time soon though.
10 September 2005 Just thinking in bits: defs should have a flag for “serious,” “satrical,” “both.” Then there could be an “Idiot’s Switch” on the sidebar. …could be nice.
29 August 2005 Added the “found” field and support in the editor. It’s in all the new ones and backfilled in a few. Won’t surface it here till I add it to the tests and decide what it should look like.
Played with some AJAX that I started last month for a flyweight, but really pretty nice, chat. Might put it on the QL or Sedition…
26 August 2005 First entry. Better Nate than lever as they say in Athens after dark. For the first entry I mean. In Athens. Greece. At night. By Nate. Instead of a lever. First entry.
Me: What the Hell is wrong with you?
Myself: You finish then…Pussy.
On the horizon, and I did hear that, another goal to be made and put off until missed enough times to be erased and forgot. There are, as of tonight, 909 live entries, Q&R in the QL; and about 20 more or less done. I was planning a Sedition announcement and post linking to best ofs and a few category lists to finally use the /l. And also to stand down there for a month or two to give time to backlog some stuff and work on DIKY and the QL more; and dictionary for that matter, 2K is looming on the horizon.
So, for the 1,000th Q&R, I want to add to the site:
  1. User voting leading to Q&R rankings. Should be via AJAX to be smooth. I’ve only done a little with it in the past so it might be a two weekend project. This might combat the mom-‌sex phenomena that ruins the “most popular” right now. Ranks can’t be dynamic, too much. Crontab it.
  2. Email it. This is easy. Just a little bit of a pain. At least it’s not like I set it up for the DDX. That’s really hacky.
  3. Found (maybe). Unless there is proof that the query found a page on Sedition or QL, it’s a matter of faith. Each new Q after 1,000 should show the page that the user found.
The Google ads are not even coffee money yet but the eCPM is pretty good so… And this has slipped from #1/#2 so have it again, “s.o.” as we say in the trade, you behemoths: Sedition·com: Don’t blame me, I voted for Kerry
Buglet to fix: search results don’t show permalinks and should.
