Leaving aside the obvious joke about there being no meaning in those dusty sheaves to begin with, there isn’t any Biblical meaning to great blue herons because they’re a new world bird. So, like dinosaurs, the planets, microbes, electromagnetic radiation, etc, etc, etc, God and the various purveyors of his word had no idea they existed yet.
The altogether similar gray heron, ardea cinerea, is another story as its range does include most of the old world. Since the symbol of Christ from the chi to the rho became the fish, one supposes a gray heron might have ingested the host and perhaps even have been transubstantiated.
“Too little too late,” writes one Biblical scholar.
