To the extent that this is true, it’s because Chinese culture puts an emphasis on scholastic achievement and self-discipline. Chinese American kids aren’t any smarter than Polish American kids after a couple generations because by the time they’re American, that focus on education has mostly disappeared and the self-discipline thing…
I don’t know where to start. Wait, yes I do. The parents. When you don’t apply discipline, when you let your kids whine their way out of things, when you let them beg you into changing decisions, you are hurting your children as surely as if you took the belt to them. Probably moreso.
It’s important to point out that Chinese culture and science was probably the most advanced in the world about 1,000 years ago when Christianity and Islam firmly and in tandem put the brakes on Western civilization. Since the Renaissance and the Age of Reason—an age long past, I’m afraid—most all important science comes from the Occident not the Orient.
Without blowing a nationalist horn—the US with an average IQ several points lower than China’s still went to the Moon and originated most of the innovation that is allowing China to pull itself out of the middle ages and the nearly constant starvation of millions of people. Which is proof that your philosophical system is more important than your raw intellect or resources. Philosophy is just another human tool, and humans live or die by the quality of our tools. Free market Democracy—which a great deal of the West has at some level or another, even run by ass-monkeys and morons, which pretty much all the West is—will beat Communism—even when driven by a bunch of geniuses or linguistics professors—every time.
